COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Middle Georgia State University Student Life will host a two-day Volunteer Fair on Feb. 17 (at Cochran campus) and Feb. 18 (at Macon campus) to recruit student volunteers.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Warner Robins' Garlock Numismatics will host its January coin show at the Georgia National Fairgrounds on January 23 at 10 a.m. with 90 coin and stamp vendors at this free event.  Middle Georgia Times

ARTS NEWS

  • A classical orchestra will perform music from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit at the Macon City Auditorium on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.—the event spotlights Howard Shore’s film compositions.  Middle Georgia Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Soulful Sounds, a New York City duo, will perform at Anderson Conference Center on January 25 at 6 p.m. (tickets start at $35) Complimentary snacks will be provided and ticket proceeds will benefit Renaissance Youth Center in the Bronx (supporting local charity).  Middle Georgia Times
  • The Country & Western Fest will take place at The Society Garden on Saturday, Jan. 17 starting at 5 p.m. and will include live music, an acoustic guitar pool, and full band performances featuring groups like Sweet Diesel.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Switch Macon will host a terrarium workshop by Fig and Ivy Plant Shop on January 22 at 6:45 p.m. at its downtown venue decorated for Valentine's Day + tickets cost $75 each.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Electric guitarist Eddie 9V is set to perform at Grant’s Lounge on Jan. 30—Nether Hour will open the show with a mix of Southern soul, blues, rock, and funk sounds, and tickets are available at the door or online.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Monster Truck Wars will showcase trucks like Outlaw (along with Shark Attack and T-Rex) and offer kids races and a ride with Sergeant Smash. The event will have two shows on Jan. 24 and one on Jan. 25 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.  Middle Georgia Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Air Force SERE Specialist Britton Seprish will lead a beginner-friendly survival training course at The Belltower Collective on Jan. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will learn to build customized go-bags, manage stress and prepare for emergencies.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Earlier this week, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia launched the 2026 cookie season in Macon with a cookie rally on Jan. 10 and introduced a new Exploremores cookie (inspired by rocky road ice cream) as Adobe became a national sponsor to boost digital skills.  Middle Georgia Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Houston County landfill will add 24 new gas wells to capture methane and reduce emissions, officials said. The project is set to begin soon — it aims to support cleaner waste management in the area.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting next Monday, Tucker Road in Bibb County will be closed for three months with detours (installed by C.W. Matthews Contracting) that are expected to increase traffic along Peake Road near Stratford Academy and delay travel until construction ends in January 2027.  13WMAZ
  • Two Bibb County school board candidates are calling for transparency after officials discovered over $5 million missing from the district's 2026 budget — they are urging clearer fiscal reporting as the district works to address the discrepancy.  13WMAZ

  • The Macon Mayhem hockey team played against the Rail Yard Dawgs at the Coliseum on Jan. 2 during Macon Music Night (presented by Coca-Cola).  Middle Georgia Times
