- ➤ The Creek 100.9 FM, run by Visit Macon, named Susie Cowan as its new General Manager on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Cowan brings over a decade of tourism and community experience and will lead station operations to enhance music culture across the area. Middle Georgia Times

- ➤ Macon Pride and Human Rights Campaign Atlanta are hosting a craftivism night tomorrow at 6 p.m. on 1st Street in downtown Macon, where guests can bring craft projects, sip hot chocolate, and listen to guest speakers (Beth Smith and Craig Hamilton) discuss how art inspires community action. WGXA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Fisher announced his bid for Bibb County School Board Post 8 and will launch his campaign at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Board of Education building on Mulberry Street. A former student and substitute teacher, he will focus on safe schools and lower office costs. 41 WMGT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal watchdog report found that oversight failures allowed issues at the Dublin VA to persist since at least 2022, leading to paused services and management changes. A new permanent director was appointed in November (with improvements now being monitored) as services have since reopened. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Macon lawyer Christopher Smith (Honorary Consul of Denmark) will speak at the Global Trade and Investment Symposium at Wesleyan College on Feb. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. to highlight 225 years of diplomatic ties between Denmark and the U.S. 13WMAZ
- ➤ A proposed Georgia bill would cap ambulance costs for eligible residents and could reduce expenses for emergency rides. Lawmakers will review the proposal in upcoming sessions (details on eligibility are pending). 13WMAZ

- ➤ Piedmont Macon Medical Center is hosting free heart health screenings on February 25 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the New Mall (register by calling 478-538-0408) to raise awareness during Heart Month. 41 WMGT
- ➤ River Edge Behavioral Health opened a new Adult Peer Support and Community Integration Center today at 2016 Ingleside Avenue — offering peer support, life skills training and wellness services for adults with mental health, substance use and developmental challenges; a ribbon cutting is set for 10:30 a.m. 41 WMGT
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Public Health released a Restaurant Report Card for Middle Georgia covering inspections from Monday, Jan. 19 to Friday, Jan. 23. The scores (unsatisfactory below 70 and perfect at 100) highlight food service standards at local establishments, including several in Macon. 41 WMGT
