  • A Macon homeowner said speeding drivers are crashing on Skipper Road and shared photos to urge the county to review safety changes.  13WMAZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Atrium Health Navicent increased its minimum wage to $18.85 an hour, a 17.8% raise announced on Wednesday to benefit Macon employees & strengthen its local workforce.  13WMAZ
  • Atrium Health Navicent announced Wednesday that its minimum wage in Georgia will rise to $18.85 per hour, effective with tomorrow's paychecks (Jan. 30). The move is part of a $776 million workforce investment intended to boost employee stability in Macon.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • James A. Ralston, a prominent Macon citizen who built Ralston Hall, is buried in the Holly Ridge section of Rose Hill Cemetery, which overlooks the river. A visual inventory project started in 2025 is documenting every monument to preserve local history.  The Macon Melody
  • Grammy-winning artist Emmylou Harris will perform at the Piedmont Grand Opera House in downtown Macon at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21 as part of cherry blossom season; tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m., ranging from $99.50 to $175 plus taxes and fees.  41 WMGT

  • A surprise celebration at Quail Run Elementary honored Ms. Melissa Martin for her lasting impact on students, with community members praising her decades of dedication + service that has shaped generations.  13WMAZ
  • Middle Georgia School Choice Week runs from Jan. 25 until the fair on Feb. 7 – where families can explore public, charter, homeschool, and microschool options at the Tubman African-American Museum in downtown Macon.  41 WMGT

  • The Macon-Bibb EMA is updating its pre-disaster hazard mitigation plan and seeks resident input through public meetings and an online survey. Meetings are held at City Hall (700 Poplar St.) on Feb. 5, March 9, or April 6 and the survey is open until Feb. 4, 2026.  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Monday's Mercer baseball First Pitch Classic, Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton advised young players on hard work and loyalty during a dinner at Hawkins Arena (Macon). He also signed autographs and shared career stories with the fans.  The Macon Melody
  • Central Fellowship Lancers beat Brentwood Eagles 64-54 with a clutch fourth-quarter performance led by Judson Walls and rising star Joshua Sanders. The win on Tuesday night puts the Lancers in prime position for upcoming Region 2 games (against Trinity Christian, Gatewood, and Windsor) as they chase the top seed.  The Macon Melody
