- ➤ The Macon Melody welcomed Lizzie Bacik as its new Partnerships and Sales Specialist and she has begun connecting with downtown community members. - ➤ A national nonprofit, Reimagining Civic Commons, has launched a mini grant program offering $600 to fund community events in Pleasant Hill; small businesses, non-profits, and individuals may apply until Feb. 15, with winners announced Feb. 20 + the effort supports local public space initiatives. - ➤ Fort Valley professor Hamidah Amanyi launched a market stand at 1149 John Hope Road in Fort Valley to offer fresh produce for $1 or less to local families — the stand is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. 41 WMGT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Douglass Theatre celebrates its 105th anniversary with Showtime of the South, a monthlong event series that started Feb. 6 and runs through Feb. 27. The lineup includes a Jimmy Mills Jr. Heritage Concert, a tribute to Black Comedy Legends, a Homecoming Week and a film series honoring the venue's legacy. WGXA
- ➤ Historic Bibb Theatre in downtown Macon will be transformed into a new hub for arts and community events, with planned updates to its seating and stage areas (official plans aim to enhance the historic venue while welcoming modern uses). 13WMAZ

- ➤ Mercer University is expanding its Early Autism Detection Program to Berrien County this month to help rural families test children 16 to 30 months old for autism using EarliPoint technology — free — program begun last July in Laurens, Washington, and Monroe and now cuts testing time to under five days. - ➤ Washington County High School approved Jay Ware as its new head football coach after Robert Edwards left — Ware visited campus Friday and was hired from Cedartown High School. He is the program’s 15th coach as the team has reached postseason every year since 2008. 41 WMGT
