  • On Feb. 21, the Middle Georgia Safe Space Supper at Startup Studios on Riverside Drive brought locals for food, games and live art, featuring treats (Grow Fresh, Kory's Cupcakes, Sweet Eleanor's) and a $25 bingo prize from the Bohemian Den.   • Residents marched through Unionville Monday night in a community peace event calling for an end to weekend violence that left four dead & nine injured, while local leaders discussed plans such as a potential expanded youth curfew.   • Macon Water Ice, a local Black-owned spot founded by Jesse Ussery and Andre Roberts, continues to thrive downtown with an expanded storefront and evolving menu.   • Grant’s Lounge, a historic music venue opened in 1971 on Poplar St., marked its 55th anniversary on Feb. 16 as musicians & fans gathered for Sunday jam sessions that continue Ed Grant Sr.’s legacy of inclusivity in Macon.  WGXA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rep. Tangie Herring introduced HB 1045 (the 'You Are Not Alone Awareness Act') to add the 9-8-8 hotline on student IDs for grades six through 12 statewide; the bill passed the House Education Committee on Monday and now heads to the full committee.  WGXA
  • Helms College is expanding healthcare training in Macon by launching its School of Health Services at the Eisenhower Parkway campus; enrollment is open for a new Multi-Skilled Medical Assistant diploma program starting April 14 (classes begin then) to help boost local healthcare jobs.  WGXA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ronnie Paul, a Thomaston man, nearly skipped a $99 calcium scoring test and later needed emergency open-heart surgery after dangerous plaque buildup was found. He now urges locals to get free heart screenings by Piedmont Macon Medical Center this Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Macon Mall (registration required).  13WMAZ
  • Multiple recalls affect items sold in local stores—Trader Joe's rice may contain glass, Aldi meatballs risk metal pieces, Nissan Rogue SUVs face engine issues, pajamas may burn, bed rails risk injury, and cat food lacks vitamin B1.
