COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Atrium Health Amphitheater in Macon is approaching its one-year anniversary after hosting 22 events that drew over 100,000 visitors and generated more than $20 million in local spending. Upcoming plans include more shows—featuring out-of-state artists like Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr.—that will further boost Macon's regional profile.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said four Warner Robins residents were arrested last week in a multi-agency drug investigation that led to the seizure of fentanyl, meth, firearms and cash, and they were booked in Houston County Jail where they now face multiple drug charges.  41 WMGT
  • Brittany Wright, a 27-year-old Macon mom who was stabbed 26 times by her husband in 2022, is remembered by her family for her care and kindness—her husband, Idris Alaka, was found guilty and sentenced to life without parole and five years.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-winning singer Rick Springfield will perform his I Want My 80s Tour at the Macon City Auditorium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.—he will promote his new album and the single Lose Myself.  WGXA
  • The Otis Redding Center for the Arts is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony today and will open its doors to the public on Saturday after three years of construction—covering 15,000 square feet with a 250-person amphitheater, interactive gallery space, upgraded practice rooms and a new recording studio. The center will host concerts and after-school musical programs for kids and brings together the Otis Redding Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, Macon Mayor Lester Miller and county commissioners.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Macon-Bibb County are voting today on a plan to renew a penny tax through a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax that will pay for roads and other projects. If the tax is approved — it will raise about $450 million for new improvements after the current tax ends in September.  The Macon Newsroom
  • Macon-Bibb County broke ground Monday on a $1.1 million renovation for Memorial Park Recreation Center, funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax — the project will add two new pavilions, an inclusive playground, pool improvements, baseball field renovations and resurfacing of the basketball and tennis courts — and county officials said the upgrades will create a better space for kids and families.  41 WMGT
