COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members gathered at historic Steward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Macon to celebrate 160 years of worship — a legacy that began in 1865 when a congregation of formerly enslaved people founded the church. Local leaders received keys to the city during the service, which included musical performances and reflections on the church’s storied history.  The Macon Melody

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, hundreds gathered at the Otis Redding Center for the Arts as local leaders and the Redding family celebrated nearly five years of planning and building the new facility. The 15,000-square-foot center (located at Cotton Avenue and Cherry Street) offers music education, a state-of-the-art recording studio, and public tours scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.  The Macon Melody

  • Macon-Bibb County and the Recreation Department held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for a $1.1 million Memorial Park SPLOST renovation project — the project will add two new pavilions, an inclusive playground, pool upgrades, renovations to the baseball field, and resurfacing of the basketball and tennis courts.  WGXA
