Community members gathered at historic Steward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Macon to celebrate 160 years of worship — a legacy that began in 1865 when a congregation of formerly enslaved people founded the church.

Local leaders received keys to the city during the service, which included musical performances and reflections on the church’s storied history.
