- ➤ Officials in Macon said A.I. policing with Verkada and ShotSpotter and youth programs helped lower violent crime after county homicides fell from 71 in 2022 to 39 in 2024 — Major Jason Batchelor said the new tech speeds suspect leads — and local groups are working together to keep the community safe. 41 WMGT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The family-friendly 29th Annual Pan African Festival returns to Macon's Tubman Museum from April 24th to April 27th. The four-day event—featuring Worship and Prayer night on April 24th at 7 p.m., an Afrocentric Ball on April 25th at 7 p.m., an Opening Ceremony at noon on April 26th, and a Praise Fest on April 27th at 2 p.m.—brings a series of cultural celebrations to the community. - ➤ NewTown Macon and Dashboard announced an immersive installation titled Echoes of Sound by artist Megan Mosholder for the 43rd Annual Macon Cherry Blossom Festival—designed to honor Macon’s musical legacy—set to transform downtown Macon’s arch on Poplar Street. The installation will be on view from March 21, 7:00-9:00 p.m. through September 26 and is free to the public. Middle Georgia Times

- ➤ This week, math teacher Mr. Jarred Jefferson at Veterans Elementary School received the My Teacher is Tops award during a surprise visit by junior journalist Amarion Jones. A student said he makes math fun and easy to learn (he has worked with students for ten years and taught for five) and Jefferson said the honor warms his heart (he is dedicated to making a difference). 13WMAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Macon voters approved a penny-on-the-dollar sales tax to raise $450 million for projects like road repairs and public safety. Only 6,250 voters—6% of the 120,000 registered—took part, with 5,180 in favor and 1,058 against, and the measure will take effect in October. The Macon Melody

- ➤ The ACE girls beat Bleckley County 6-0 at home on Tuesday night with a hat trick from Kate Thomason and goals from Edy Powell, EG Wood— and Bayleigh Loosier that moved them into region control. The ACE boys later won 8-0 with Sohan Patel leading his team and will play again on April 1. The Macon Melody
- ➤ Bibb County high schools launched new pickleball clubs after Southwest High School started one in late February; Howard High School followed as students got excited to try the sport. A small intramural tournament took place at Tattnall Square Park on Wednesday—teachers say the clubs may soon expand as more students join in. WGXA
