CRIME NEWS

  • Joey Fournier, a convicted killer and Bibb County Jail escapee, was denied a new trial for the 2022 murder of Cynthia Berry when Judge Connie Williford ruled his claims of courtroom errors did not outweigh the evidence against him, and he remains in prison serving a life sentence with a possibility of parole in 30 years.  WGXA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paul and Alice Williams have dyed their poodles pink for 30 years to brighten the Cherry Blossom festival in Macon & they keep the tradition alive through their longtime pet grooming business. The couple, nearing retirement, said they plan to continue sharing this unique custom with the community as long as their dogs enjoy the festivities.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb officials say that starting at 10 a.m. today, Arkwright Road from Hall Circle to an unnamed dirt road is closed for repairs on the bridge over Beaverdam Creek+ drivers are advised to use alternate routes until the work is complete.  WGXA
  • The federal government announced it is pulling back $1B in funding that once supported fresh, locally grown food in school cafeterias and food banks—reducing resources for key nutrition programs. Local agencies say the cut will force changes in how communities access healthy food.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County Sheriff David Davis stopped signing school zone citations from cameras on March 19 because he said the law was applied unevenly. The cameras continued recording violations at public and private schools—while lawmakers consider bills to ban or regulate automated speed detection.  The Macon Melody

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released this week’s Restaurant Report Card showing food service inspection scores from March 17th to 21st for Middle Georgia restaurants—restaurants with scores below 70 were deemed unsatisfactory, scores from 70 to 99 were considered satisfactory and several Macon restaurants earned a perfect score of 100.  41 WMGT
