- ➤ Macon will host the Friends of the Library Book Sale next week at the Round Building on Willie Smokie Glover Drive with a members-only preview on April 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. and a public sale from April 11 to April 13—Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the event features tens of thousands of books priced at $1 for paperbacks, $2 for hardbacks and half-price on Sunday to support local libraries. - ➤ A Macon man (25-year-old Jaquez Devontae Durham) pleaded guilty to six indictments including trafficking marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, and aggravated assault on inmates while in custody and will serve 10 years in prison; a vintage car and $33,000 were seized as part of asset forfeiture. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Warner Robins Police Department is asking the community to search for two missing men — 34-year-old Mondaizie Rainey, a 6'2" man weighing 195 pounds likely in the Atlanta area, and 49-year-old Charles Turner, a 6'1" man weighing 173 pounds — and urges anyone with information to contact Detective Elizabeth Smith. - ➤ Deputies in Washington County stopped another contraband drop Wednesday morning—arresting 22-year-old Jamel Barnes after 11:30 a.m. and seizing drugs and electronics that marked the eleventh attempt since March. WGXA

- ➤ Today, the Macon Arts Alliance Gallery (486 First St) opens a 478 Creatives group exhibition featuring work from 26 local artists and 50 pieces that runs through April 25 with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Additional art events include a Gallery West opening with live music from 5 to 9 p.m. and three harp concerts at Fickling Hall on Mercer Campus on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 10 a.m., and Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The Macon Melody
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cliff Meidl, a former Olympian and current health and safety ambassador with Georgia 811, urged Macon residents to call 811 three days before starting any digging project to prevent damage to underground utilities—he said this helps avoid injuries, service disruptions and costly repairs during Safe Digging Month. 41 WMGT
- ➤ County officials spent $8.2 million from over $8.9 million collected from school zone speeding tickets on school police, crossing guard improvements and public safety equipment, leaving about $600,000 unspent—money gathered from cameras on Vineville Avenue installed in 2022. At Tuesday's meeting, the county board approved $1 million for the Bibb County School District and $2 million for the public safety fund—records show funds were used on cameras, vehicles and emergency gear. - ➤ A federal judge in Macon ruled that the sexual harassment lawsuit against Warner Robins will move forward on one claim while ex-Mayor Randy Toms and two city officials were dismissed due to qualified immunity— the judge noted the city took prompt action after a credible complaint during COVID-19 but left one question on whether a coworker’s repeated presence amounted to ongoing harassment.
