COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Suzy McCullough retired Monday after 46 years and eight months as the longest-tenured employee at Riverside Library, marking the end of a cherished career in the Middle Georgia Regional Library System. Tuesday's commission meeting honored her with a proclamation naming it Suzy McCullough Day (an acknowledgment of her impact on generations of local readers).  The Macon Melody

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The 2nd Street bridge in Macon is closed indefinitely after a crash damaged its beams—Georgia DOT engineers are planning repairs and detours are in place to guide drivers.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During a Thursday board meeting, Macon Water Authority members argued over ending live social media coverage, a confusing purchasing card policy, and needed repairs at Amerson Water Treatment Plant—issues included broken filters and a sludge-filled settling tank that put the plant permit at risk. The board said it will use bond savings for quick repairs while critics call for clear rules and honest communication.  The Macon Newsroom
  • The state Senate passed two bills on Friday that change how speed cameras work in school zones. HB 651 keeps the cameras legal but limits enforcement to school days and requires warning signs with flashing yellow lights — and HB 225 phases out the cameras with new contracts banned after July 1, 2027 and full repeal on July 1, 2028 — while both bills must be reapproved by the House before midnight.  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dick Frame, a Macon sports icon battling ALS for over a decade, remains a strong figure in local sports after years of coaching and volunteering—his 85th birthday will be celebrated on April 26.  The Macon Melody
  • Mercer baseball will face VMI in a three-game series in Lexington, Virginia, with games scheduled Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m.). Coach Craig Gibson said his team, led by senior shortstop Bradley Frye and outfielder Ty Dalley, is set to play its best baseball for the stretch run.  The Macon Melody
