ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A vehicle being towed along with another fell from its trailer on I-475 North Monday night after low hanging power lines detached it—causing it to hit a power pole near the Tucker Road bridge—and officials reopened all lanes just before 4 a.m. with no charges filed.  41 WMGT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released food service inspection scores for restaurants in Middle Georgia covering inspections from March 31 to April 4. The report showed that while many restaurants scored 100, some scored below 70—marking unsatisfactory results.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • A commercial truck driver — Arthur Waldrip — pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular homicide for a distracted driving crash on April 30 that killed 70-year-old Pastor Clifford Scott nearly five years ago and received a 15-year sentence with six years to be served in custody from Bibb County Superior Court.  41 WMGT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms caused flooding along the Ocmulgee River and water levels are expected to peak today.  13WMAZ
  • Today, the floodgate opened at Lake Sinclair dam and water was released while a video captured the event.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Macon Water Authority is speeding up $5M in repairs at the Amerson Plant to fix problems that have reduced its capacity to process 60 million gallons of water per day for Bibb, Jones and Monroe counties. They will finish the repairs within 90 days—using leftover funds from a $100M bond—to avoid risking the plant’s EPD permit.  13WMAZ
  • State Rep. Dale Washburn said he will continue fighting to ban school zone speeding cameras in Macon after his bill died for missing the legislative deadline—he cited that the cameras generated $8.9 million in fines over the past three years and hurt drivers with $100 fines who struggle to pay. Bibb County Sheriff David Davis will decide if the county will resume collecting fines—Washburn promised to keep working at the state level when the assembly reconvenes.  41 WMGT
