COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Macon is hosting a variety of events this Easter weekend that offer local art exhibits, truck shows, family cookouts, and cultural tours. Many events begin today and are free and open to all (including art shows and live performances) with further activities scheduled through April 20 (featuring workshops and special brunches).  WGXA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Middle Georgia entrepreneurs attended a roundtable event on Thursday where the Small Business Administration, the Macon-Bibb Office of Small Business Affairs and NewTown Macon shared resources for business counseling, training and capital access. Georgia District Director Terri Denison said the event also covered federal contracting opportunities for local businesses.  WGXA
  • Macon Bibb County hosted a three-hour Small Business Roundtable at Macon City Hall—featuring U.S. Small Business Affairs and local resource providers—where SBA District Director Terri Denison said the agency wanted business owners to learn about available counseling and training for strategic choices.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern rock icons including the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov’t Mule, Duane Betts, and Palmetto Motel will headline a concert at Atrium Health Amphitheater on Oct 11 in Macon near Macon Mall off Eisenhower Parkway. Tickets will be available with artist presales starting April 21 at 10 a.m. + general sale on April 25 at 10 a.m.  13WMAZ
  • Former U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo will appear at Middle Georgia State University’s School of Arts and Letters on April 24 to read from her works and hold a Q&A session at 11 a.m. in the campus volleyball gym—an event organized by Georgia Humanities in partnership with local historical groups—designed to celebrate Muscogee creativity.  The Macon Melody

  • A teacher in Rutland resigned after officials said she faced immediate termination+ an investigation found she allegedly wrote a racial slur on an electronic board.  13WMAZ
  • A teacher in Macon resigned Thursday after an investigation confirmed she wrote a racial slur on a classroom e‑board, the Bibb County Board of Education said—her departure is recorded as a resignation in lieu of termination.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon Water Authority Chairman Gary Bechtel defended the decision to raise water rates and change purchasing card policies as board member Elaine Lucas pressed for a grand jury investigation and claimed that the new rules unfairly targeted her—Bechtel said rising supply costs drove the rate increase and dismissed allegations of discrimination.  13WMAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • ACE beat Washington County 11-6 Tuesday night in Macon—boosting their standing as they head into today's game in Sandersville where a win or a run gap of six will clinch the second seed and a home playoff match.
