  • Reverend Derek Dumas, pastor of Greater Lizzieboro Baptist Church on Fort Hill Street, died Friday morning at Atrium Hospital from natural causes at 53, confirmed by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones — he had led the church since the early 2000s.  WGXA
  • A 90-year-old veteran from Warner Robins got a $500 surprise shopping spree from Hibbett while picking out 13 items and will represent the military on April 25 when Middle Georgia Honor Flight takes her to Washington (D.C.).  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • A documentary on MLB legend Johnny Mize will screen at the Douglass Theatre on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 7:30 p.m. with a happy hour at 6:30 p.m. and a discussion featuring director Hal Jacobs and historian Jerry Grillo (the film highlights Mize’s storied career).  The Macon Melody
  • Local band Ashes released their first EP, Ashes, at midnight on April 17 and held a launch show at 9 p.m. at Grant's Lounge in downtown Macon; the young band (in their early 20s) played six tracks blending classic rock covers with original music.  WGXA

  • Cirque du Luxe, an (animal-free) performance created by record-holding juggler Emiliano Fusco, debuts at Under the Big Top at Smiley’s Flea Market from Thursday, April 16 to Sunday, April 19.
