- ➤ Macon-Bibb County is hosting its 15th annual Earth Day celebration today at Amerson River Park (2551 Pierce Drive North) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering live music, kids' activities, giveaways and awards for those making our community greener. 41 WMGT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two Macon women are demanding answers after several storage units at Mercer Storage on Mercer University Drive were broken into in March—deputies responded just this past Saturday and one woman fears she will not access her belongings until next Saturday, risking a loss of nearly $20,000—as investigators pursue leads. - ➤ A Warner Robins man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend (prosecutors said the killing was motivated by a jilted lover seeking revenge). 13WMAZ
- ➤ A Warner Robins man was sentenced to life without parole on April 18 for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and hiding her body in the woods—he also received an extra 20-year sentence on related charges. WGXA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Asha Ellen of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful is presenting a new documentary called The Perfect Gift that shows real stories about organ donation in the African American community. The film and its gallery exhibit will be at Douglass Theatre today, with the exhibit opening at 3 p.m. and the film premiering at 4 p.m. 41 WMGT
- ➤ The Tubman African American Museum will host the 29th annual Pan African Festival April 24—27 to celebrate African culture with live music, market stalls and local talent including church choirs, school groups and Macon native singer Mike Clark Jr. The free event, themed Stronger Together, will also feature a worship night and an Afrocentric Ball with Ugandan food and performances. - ➤ Macon artist Mark Ballard, known for teaching cooking and crafts on TV, is now returning to create art for the community. He makes pet portraits and abstract work and will show his watercolor paintings at the Macon Arts Alliance from May 2nd to 23rd. The Macon Melody

- ➤ Bibb County Cooperative Extension advised gardeners to keep their spring vegetable gardens small so they can give each plant the right care — testing the soil, using balanced fertilizer, and watering only when the soil feels dry.
