  • Benjamin Linton, a 19-year-old sophomore from the Robert McDuffie Center, won Mercer University’s 2026 Concerto Competition on April 13 at the Piedmont Grand Opera House by performing Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D minor with the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra.  The Macon Melody
  • A new Butterfly Project program is giving local students with developmental disabilities the chance to lead in High School Musical Junior this weekend in Macon. The initiative supports their passion for theater with live performance opportunities.  13WMAZ
  • This weekend, Middle Georgia offers a variety of family-friendly events — Macon hosts the Pan African Festival at Henderson Stadium with live music, Reynolds holds its annual Strawberry Festival featuring a parade and tractor show, Bacon Fest and Just Tap’d Beer Festival take place in Macon, and local book sales are set in Carolyn Crayton Park and Perry.  41 WMGT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Robins Air Force Base reported a $4.48 billion economic impact for fiscal 2025 with a $2.89 billion payroll and a 33% rise in spending driven by renovations, new construction, and local services.   • Macon-Bibb leaders approved $1.1 million for design services from TVS Designs to create early architectural plans for a planned $165.5 million hotel and convention center downtown — early designs are expected this year as the project aims to boost local business activity.  13WMAZ

  • New manager Jesse Litsch, a former MLB player, is preparing the Macon Bacon ahead of the 2026 season as the team hosts Bacon Fest this Saturday. The team opens with an away game on May 28 and a home game on May 30 against Lexington County.  The Macon Melody
