CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Bibb County jury convicted Macon man Joshua Gerell Huff of false imprisonment and battery under Georgia family violence law after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend on March 24th, and he was sentenced to 10 years with 7 to serve in prison. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Joshua Gerell Huff, a Macon man, was convicted of battery and false imprisonment for injuring his girlfriend during an uninvited visit that left her with a bloody nose—he received a 7-year prison sentence, according to the District Attorney's Office. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Two people were arrested after a traffic stop on Mercer University Drive on April 22 — a Toyota Camry had an expired license, mismatched tag and active warrants, with one suspect fleeing on foot while the other faced an active warrant in Florida. 41 WMGT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 29th Pan African Festival of Georgia began on April 24 in downtown Macon to celebrate African culture — a tradition started 29 years ago to unite the community. Today the festival features the Honorable Ambassador Robie Kakonge Reception and Afrocentric Ball at the Tubman Museum parking lot — and it will offer more family-friendly events through April 27. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Macon Arts Alliance's Fired Works Ceramic Festival begins today and runs until May 3 at Carolyn Crayton Park in the Round Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily — the 20th anniversary event will feature all artist-potters sharing the spotlight in a common display. The Macon Melody
- ➤ This weekend, Macon will host various free local events including art exhibits, live music, food festivals and community fairs from Friday to Sunday—such as the Fired Works Ceramic Festival at Carolyn Crayton Park on Friday and a classic car show at ALC Macon on Saturday. Residents can also enjoy family activities, craft beer sampling, workshops and an opera performance on Sunday—ensuring there is something for everyone. WGXA

- ➤ Several student athletes in Macon-Bibb County were awarded the Al Lucas Memorial Scholarship — honoring the legacy of the late Al Lucas — giving them extra reason to celebrate graduation season. WPGA News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Lester Miller presented handwritten messages and the annual NCDB Grant Week Proclamation during National Community Development Block Grant Week at City Hall on Thursday — where about $270,000 in grants were given to local agencies including the Salvation Army of Greater Macon. - ➤ After nearly two decades of neglect, the old Bateman & Wade site was acquired by the Macon-Bibb Land Bank when the county agreed to extinguish 9,300 dollars in unpaid property taxes—young saplings now grow on the lot and community members will help decide its future use. This action turns an abandoned urban landmark into a greenspace that may soon be developed for affordable housing and productive community use. The Macon Melody
- ➤ The Macon-Bibb County Board of Health will use nearly $500,000 from opioid settlements to fund harm reduction efforts in Bibb and Houston counties with vending machines for testing kits and a pilot jail-based overdose education and naloxone program. The Macon-Bibb Board of Elections is asking for funds to install automatic doors at the Macon Mall office while the SPLOST Advisory Committee reported nearly $29 million remains for courthouse renovations—local architects will study plans for new public entrances and improved access.
