  • Central Georgia organizations are accepting donations to support first responders in Brantley County amid wildfires. Items like hydration packets and snacks are needed at Forsyth Police Department (200 South Kimbell St.) in Forsyth, Bibb County Animal Services in Macon, and Laurens County 4-H in Dublin.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bragg Jam 2026 Concert Crawl will take place July 25 in downtown Macon with headliners Kashus Culpepper and Langhorne Slim. The festival will feature a diverse lineup across multiple venues and honor The Rookery's 50th anniversary with a special performance by The Buckleys.  41 WMGT
  • The 30th annual Pan African Festival celebrates Jamaican culture in Macon — it will be held at Henderson Stadium this weekend with live music, cultural displays and food options for all ages.  WPGA News
  • The Douglass Theatre, a historic venue in downtown Macon that opened in 1921, continues to honor African American resilience through arts and education programs. Community leaders say the theatre remains a cultural beacon ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.  41 WMGT
  • Theatre Macon is hosting a dress rehearsal benefit performance of Come From Away on Thursday, Apr. 30, at 8 p.m. All proceeds support the Middle Ga. Community Food Bank, and tickets cost $25 with a post-show conversation following the 90-minute performance.  The Macon Melody

  • Macon County elementary students earned top honors in the 2026 Young Georgia Authors contest (with second grader JaDashia Hudson and fourth grader Laiyah Worthy advancing to the state-level round). The contest celebrated young writers' creativity and love of reading and writing.  13WMAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Georgia faces drought as dry soil fuels wildfire risk and stresses 97% of peanut and cotton crops. Experts say smoke from fires may affect breathing (especially among children and older adults).  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rick Devens, a Macon man on CBS’ Survivor, threw the first pitch Friday night at Truist Park — marking a highlight in the Braves and Phillies game. Over 100 local fans participated in Survivor-style challenges.  13WMAZ
  • Tattnall Trojans announced Mark Farriba as defensive coordinator + the former Stratford and FPD coach brings 30 seasons of success, while FPD won GIAA tennis titles with Katelynn Jackson in the girls individual and Noah Perry with Ethan Lashley securing boys doubles; team tournaments begin April 28.  The Macon Melody
  • Central Georgia native Romello Height was selected No. 70 overall in the third round of the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers today. The 24-year-old had his best season at Texas Tech and now joins a defense featuring Nick Bosa + Fred Warner.  13WMAZ
