  • On Tuesday, Ingleside Village Pizza removed its beloved 'Chairy-y' tree — experts warned its declining condition posed hazards for guests. Owner Tina Dickson said the lot will be repurposed — assuring customers that the pizza will remain as delicious as ever.  WGXA
  • Various weekend events bring music, art, free markets and unique activities to Macon and nearby towns from May 1 to 3. Highlights include First Friday downtown, a Fairy Festival in Covington, a garden tour, live concerts and goat yoga on Sunday.  Middle Georgia Times

  • After a kitchen fire forced S&S Cafeteria to close for over a year, it will reopen on Riverside Drive soon to welcome locals back.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local restaurants host Cinco de Mayo specials today with live DJ at El Metate, $2 off tacos and a downtown bar crawl starting at 4 p.m. Extra events include a party at Hummingbird on May 5 and a ballroom dance with free lessons on May 9.  13WMAZ
  • Visitors can tour 12 historic homes this weekend for $50, offering a rare chance to explore private spaces designed by famed architect Neel Reid (a local icon).  13WMAZ
  • Macon sees art and music this First Friday as Gallery West hosts Kirsten West’s retirement party (5–8 p.m. at 447 Third St.) while the second South of Atlanta Fest launches today with live music kickoff at The Big House Museum and continues Saturday with songwriter rounds and pre-party events.  The Macon Melody

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volunteers and mystery greeters walked L.H. Williams Elementary students on Thursday morning in Macon to boost their confidence before Georgia Milestones testing. Georgia School Boards Association Executive Director Valerie Wilson said teachers had prepared the students well.  WGXA
  • Mount de Sales Academy in Macon names alumnus Mike Walton as head basketball coach for the 2026–27 season as the school marks its 150th anniversary today. Walton brings Division I experience from Rice University and prior roles at Wesleyan and South Carolina State to guide the program’s growth.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Justice reached a $750K settlement with Fort Valley property managers over a 14-month case of disability discrimination after a mother's repeated requests for a ground-floor unit were denied. The agreement (which includes policy changes and training requirements) enforces compliance with the Fair Housing Act.  41 WMGT
  • Macon Water Authority continues mapping its 200-year-old stormwater system in downtown to address failing culverts and terracotta pipes as the city grows while maintaining over 26,000 catch basins and 800 miles of pipe. The Authority began assessing outstanding stormwater fees from large customers in 2022 (covering square footage).  The Macon Melody
