- ➤ Jeffrey Hughdahl, Ph.D. rides his bike daily on a 30-minute commute to Mercer University with only a few bike lanes available—even after a 2020 accident—while BikeWalk Macon, led by Rachel Umana, has added over 12 miles of bike lanes and is working to change local road policies to boost safer routes for bikers and pedestrians. - ➤ The Frank Johnson Recreation Center in Macon is getting major renovations (using $2 million from SPLOST) that will add new pools, playgrounds, a remodeled baseball field, a new tennis court and weight room. The center will reopen in September (as confirmed by local officials). 41 WMGT

- ➤ Ronnie Atkinson of Ronnie Atkinson Logging was indicted last Wednesday for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft after allegedly working with a high-ranking Morris Bank employee in Gray to secure 57 fraudulent loans totaling over $3 million—federal prosecutors say the scheme involved using false documents and straw borrowers. 13WMAZ

- ➤ In 1949 a landscaping error at the Fickling family home led to the planting of cherry blossom trees that have since become a cultural symbol for Macon—bringing in $8 million a year and a growing festival.
