  • Early Friday morning, community members gathered downtown Macon to honor fallen public safety officers at the 14th Annual Peace Officers' Memorial Day Ceremony; local officials and family members paid tribute while a wreath-laying and Georgia State Patrol flyover took place at Public Safety Memorial Park—ensuring that their sacrifice is never forgotten.  WGXA
  • Local neighbors have shared their opinions on a planned $23M renovation at Lake Tobesofkee. Officials will review the input before finalizing project plans (more details are expected soon).  13WMAZ
  • The Brookdale Resource Center in Macon named Danielle Hill Volunteer of the Year for her service to individuals and families facing homelessness. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Longleaf Distillery in Macon earned six medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, including double gold for two barrel-aged whiskies, and will await Best of Class results on May 18. CRIME NEWS

  • Three female inmates were found unresponsive during a block check and given Narcan by deputies before being taken to Atrium Health Navicent — they are now stable and have been returned to Bibb County jail while the incident is under investigation.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County Sheriff's Office is searching for Heather Marie Thompson (38) who has been missing since September 26; she was last seen near Cordele Avenue and Riggins Mill Road.  WGXA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bibbs County School District is planning its 2026 budget and may face a deficit of at least $17 million while keeping its millage rate at 14.674—if property values rise, tax bills could increase despite a healthy reserve fund. The board will vote on a tentative budget on May 15, with public hearings and a final vote on June 18 as officials focus on student achievement and teacher retention.  13WMAZ
