CULTURE NEWS

  • Students saw a preview of the UniverSoul Circus at James H. Porter Elementary School on Tuesday during an after-school visit that featured diverse acts from around the world. The full show will run in Atlanta at the old Turner Field grey lot through June 14.  41 WMGT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Filming for 'The Comeback King' starring Glen Powell is boosting local businesses and giving students a chance to learn about the filmmaking process in Macon. The movie will hit theaters on Feb. 5 next year and is already spurring economic activity across the city.  41 WMGT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Georgia high schools will hold graduation ceremonies from May 15 to May 30 — with key events at Perry’s Reaves Arena and Macon Coliseum — as students prepare to step onto the stage.  13WMAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An unknown black oily substance reappeared on High Falls Lake near the Towaliga River, prompting the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to test water samples amid concerns it could affect Macon’s drinking water supply. Local residents remain frustrated with unclear accountability as officials work to identify the substance.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov Kemp signed the You Are Not Alone Awareness Act Tuesday, requiring public schools statewide to print the 988 hotline on middle and high school IDs starting next school year — a measure meant to help students access round-the-clock crisis support.  13WMAZ
  • Gov. Kemp signed a law that adds the 988 mental health hotline to student IDs, ensuring students can reach support more easily. The measure was enacted in Georgia and will be implemented this school year.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Piedmont Macon now offers robotic technology to detect lung cancer early and help doctors start treatment sooner. The innovative system is available at the hospital.  WPGA News
  • For Mental Health Awareness Month, Quintessa Solomon-Hardy of River Edge Behavioral Health urged residents to treat mental health care as essential; she recommended simple daily habits (like walks and deep breathing) to ease stress and keep minds and bodies strong.  The Macon Melody

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Five new homes are being built along Villa Esta Avenue (across from Bruce Elementary) to replace blight and offer families a chance to personalize their homes as county officials aim to boost property values and create a safer neighborhood. SPORTS NEWS

  • Mercer baseball swept VMI (boosting their record to 39-13) last weekend and now ties for first in the SoCon with Western Carolina. The Bears will face ETSU on the road this weekend as they aim to secure the regular season title for the first time since 2017.  The Macon Melody
