COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kaylee Pruitt will take over as Bike Walk Macon's executive director on May 20 — she already served as interim director since March and plans to join the pedestrian safety review and Macon Transit Authority boards to boost local mobility.  The Macon Melody
  • More than 40 restaurants in Middle Georgia are joining United We Dine for Brookdale, a day-long fundraiser in which a portion of sales will benefit the Brookdale Resource Center to aid people facing homelessness. Local favorites (Macon Bagels, Sweet Eleanor’s) are taking part to give back.  41 WMGT
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Middle Georgia installed 162 solar panels on its new Buck Melton Center roof at no cost, which will lower energy expenses and support its community programs (Cherry Street Energy will maintain the panels for 20 years).  41 WMGT
  • The Apostolic Church of Promise will host its 24th Pentecost convening June 1 to 10. In-person sessions occur June 1-7 at Temple of God ACOP (3015 Churchill) while virtual sessions with 6 a.m. prayer occur June 8-10, with an 11 a.m. service on June 7 by Bishop Jewell Thomas.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Safer Macon Collective hosted a job and resource fair in Unionville at the Frank Johnson Recreation Center on May 14 — drawing local agencies including representatives from the judicial office and Army — to offer employment and direct services; organizers plan similar events across the area.  WGXA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Middle Georgia offers a weekend of diverse local events from May 15–17; locals can visit Milledgeville for its market and audio theatre, enjoy magic shows and live music in Macon, and attend family festivals in Knoxville and Dublin — all free or low-cost events with limited tickets.  Middle Georgia Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A 2025 report shows Houston County renters face steep rent hikes with two bedroom apartments now at about $1,300, up from $550 to $700 over five years. In Centerville, residents say rent often costs more than buying — highlighting housing affordability concerns.  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Bibb County School District faces a $23M deficit for fiscal year 2027 and may ask local taxpayers to help cover costs unless spending cuts or a tax increase are made. The board must adopt a budget by June 30 (after public hearings) as efficiency studies and rezoning recommendations develop.  The Macon Melody

HEALTH NEWS

  • Consumers in Macon are urged to check products including MG217 Eczema Cream, select chocolate bars, popcorn seasoning, raw dog food, electric kettles, and Petzl harnesses due to recall notices from the FDA + CPSC. The agencies advise immediate discontinuation and safe disposal if items match recalled lots.  41 WMGT
  • A Macon woman shares her experience surviving multiple strokes and offers advice on lowering stroke risk. She urges others to adopt lifestyle changes and schedule regular health check-ups.  13WMAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Macon RBI received final approval for upgrades at Vernon Sinclair Senior Field to add batting cages, a concession stand, extra parking, and bathrooms. The nonprofit program, which invites roughly 130 players, begins its 13th season Saturday with games starting at 10 a.m.  13WMAZ
