- ➤ Caleb Slinkard ended his role as managing editor of The Macon Melody today and will take a week off before starting a new remote job with The New York Times the day after Memorial Day. - ➤ A federal judge dismissed drug charges against Byron woman Eboni Poindexter—her charges were dropped with prejudice after the GBI failed to test suspected drugs found at her home—just days before her trial was scheduled. 13WMAZ

- ➤ Macon Catholic priests described the newly elected Pope Leo XIV as a leader who can open the church to those on its fringes and bring fresh American perspectives to its centuries-old traditions. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ During Mental Health Awareness Month, local groups offer free and low-cost mental health support for Macon residents — from the 988 crisis lifeline to wellness programs and counseling services. A free two-day symposium on trauma-informed care will be held at the South Bibb Recreation Complex from May 23 to 24 to help those in need. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Macon-Bibb firefighters will hold a photoshoot audition on May 22 to produce a charity calendar returning after a seven-year break that previously raised $26,000 for children’s healthcare.
