  • Cynthia DuBose has been named executive director of the Georgia Trust for Local News and will lead its digital transformation starting June 1, focusing on growth among 20 publications in Middle and South Georgia (she brings experience from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and McClatchy).  The Macon Melody

  • Piedmont Grand Opera House in downtown Macon stands as a historic arts center that has hosted legends and now offers diverse performances for all — a symbol of the city’s past and future in arts and culture.  41 WMGT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Unified Legacy Group announced a $125 million expansion to build a 600,000 sqft manufacturing plant on Barnes Ferry Road (South Bibb County) to add 500 jobs. Construction begins immediately with the plant set to open in early next year, and a welding training program will support local career growth.  13WMAZ
  • Prince Service & Manufacturing plans a $100 million expansion at Barnes Ferry Road to create up to 500 jobs with a new plant scheduled for early completion next year. MGRC adopted plan to support national park & the UDA will sell city's oldest church building to a new congregation.  The Macon Newsroom

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peach County Schools recovered a gun from a student's car in the on-campus parking lot Monday morning after a disciplinary investigation; school resource officers and local law enforcement confirmed there was no threat to students.  13WMAZ
  • Peach County High School senior E'Darrius Davis will enroll at Fort Valley State University this fall to study electrical engineering for a career at Georgia Power. Davis earned a 3.9 GPA, excelled in sports, and organized community drives that showed his grit and generosity.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Multiple product recalls affecting ice cream, seasoning, noodles and children’s stools have been announced with risks from metal fragments, salmonella and peanut cross-contact and children’s stools that injured some children—local consumers are advised to discard affected items and follow company instructions for a refund or replacement.  41 WMGT
