COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keambra Wilson, a Macon native, is organizing Outpour 2025—a prayer event at the Macon-Bibb Government Center on Poplar Street scheduled for Sunday, June 1 at 4 p.m.—in response to recent violence that included shootings at a graduation party and Midtown Daiquiri Bar and Grill. Wilson aims to unite the community with worship, prayer, and food while local authorities continue investigating the incidents.  13WMAZ
  • Community activists L.J. Malone and Tia Lockhart launched the new radio show Village Talks on Glory 107.9 FM to give overlooked Macon voices a chance to speak on key issues—focusing on accountability, redlining, mental health, and youth support. The show airs each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The Macon Melody

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A nine-car train derailed off its tracks near Lower Poplar Road just outside Macon Yard on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m.—no injuries or hazardous materials were reported—and crews are working to reopen the affected crossing while the company investigates the cause.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • A mass shooting outside Midtown Daiquiri Bar on Sunday left three people dead and several injured, and county commissioners today will vote on its liquor license renewal amid debate over the venue’s security measures and history of violence—Commissioner Bailey supports the application while Commissioner Stewart and Sheriff Davis call for its revocation.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County commissioners will vote on Midtown Daiquiri Bar and Grill’s liquor license after a weekend shooting killed three and injured several others—County Sheriff David Davis said he is exploring every legal option to deny the application due to the bar’s history of violence.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority is offering a $25 summer bus pass for teenagers 13 to 18 that gives unlimited rides on 11 routes and access to libraries and recreation centers; registration starts on Friday, May 30 at Terminal Station. The pass will be valid from June 2 through July 31 and requires proof of age and enrollment (200 Cherry Street).  41 WMGT
  • Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice will build an $82.7 million 98,000-square-foot expansion in East Macon to modernize a long-term girls detention facility. The project will merge two centers—Macon Youth Development Campus and the Regional Youth Detention Center—to share resources and cut costs, though no completion date has been set.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon-Bibb County will collect $450 million in 2025 SPLOST proceeds over 10 years, and Mayor Lester Miller led county commissioners on a bus tour of eight sites valued at over $1B on May 13 — sites include a proposed new jail at Seventh and Lower Poplar and plans for public safety, parking, arena and education developments — as future project opportunities were assessed.  The Macon Newsroom
