  • Bibb County Board of Education is reviewing a $23.8M deficit for Fiscal Year 2027 by considering cuts, staffing changes, and a possible property tax increase — the board will vote on a tentative budget before June 30.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Robins Air Force Base held its annual Memorial Day ceremony yesterday to honor fallen service members and their families, with tributes led by Col. Johari Hemphill (who stressed the importance of keeping their names alive) and a wreath laid for those who died defending freedom.  41 WMGT
  • Rock Springs Congregational Methodist Church has filed an application with the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission to build a 150-foot cross off Bass Road. The proposal includes exterior lighting, a concrete base, a new parking area, and a handicap-accessible ramp.  41 WMGT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rising summer heat prompts local nurse practitioner Joy King to urge residents to stay hydrated and schedule outdoor exercise during cooler hours, as older adults, children, and active workers (especially those on diuretics) risk heat exhaustion and dehydration.  The Macon Melody
  • Yesterday (May 21), Piedmont Macon Medical Center held its 33rd annual Stroke Stroll where stroke survivors and families walked around the hospital cafeteria and joined a support group to honor recovery while health experts stressed calling 9-1-1 at stroke signs.  WGXA

  • Stratford girls beat St. Anne-Pacelli 3-2 in double overtime on Thursday at Spencer Hays Field—eighth-grader Maddie Biesterfeld’s looping goal secured the win, and they will face Tuesday’s FPD champion in the state championship game to complete their perfect season.  The Macon Melody
  • Westside sophomore Anthony Horton won the GHSA 2A State Championship in discus last week with a throw of 154 feet 6 inches, beating the runner-up by over 9 feet and finishing second in shot put at UGA's track field (the only Bibb County state champion this year).  The Macon Melody
