COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pools at Frank Johnson, Delores A. Brooks and South Bibb Recreation Centers and splash pads at South Bibb and Freedom Park open today for summer at $1 admission and run Saturdays 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and weekdays 1 p.m.–7 p.m.—other locations await inspections to open next week.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists Rhonda Miller, Pam Pinkston and Hazel Caldwell highlight art’s role in easing mental health struggles during National Mental Health Month — hikes are inspiring creative expression and Miller’s art will be shown at The 567 Center for Renewal and The Bohemian Den on June 5.  The Macon Melody
  • A Warner Robins-based production team is set to debut an 85-minute documentary titled 10 Good Men that preserves firsthand accounts from surviving World War II B-17 veterans. The film features restored archive footage (with narration by Emmy Award-winning Dan Nachtrab) and will be shown locally soon.  41 WMGT
  • Alan Walden celebrates his 83rd birthday today at Hummingbird Tap Room and Stage (downtown) where the event officially signs 24-year-old blues guitarist Apostoli Floyd to Hustlers Inc. with music beginning at 7 p.m. and his performance at 9:30 p.m.  WGXA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Middle Georgia Regional Commission announced a $100 million industrial expansion at Barnes Ferry Road that could bring up to 500 jobs, while the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority sold the city’s oldest church—dating to 1829—to a new congregation. The expansion is expected to complete early next year.  The Macon Melody

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bibb County School District will offer free summer meals to children 18 and younger from June 1 to 25 at several school sites. Meals will be served Monday through Thursday with breakfast provided at select schools (8:00–8:30 a.m. or 9:00–9:30 a.m.) and lunch from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.  41 WMGT
  • Bibb County school leaders are addressing a $20 million deficit by considering cost-cutting measures — central office furloughs, eliminating empty positions, freezing salary increases, and larger class sizes — as part of their plan to reduce spending.  13WMAZ
  • Stratford Academy valedictorian Zarif Rahman impressed teachers with his dedication to academics and creativity in musical theatre lighting and band. His achievements show balanced talents that promise future success in the school community.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the Macon Water Authority are repairing a 12-inch water main at Riverside Drive and Madison Street today, and the work is expected to take 10-12 hours. Up to 200 customers may face low water pressure or brief outages during the repair.  13WMAZ
  • Residents in a downtown neighborhood are without water due to a water main issue, and city officials say repairs will begin soon — updates will be provided as the situation evolves.  13WMAZ
  • Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority launched a free news subscription service today to deliver real-time transit updates, route changes, and service alerts (residents are encouraged to sign up and share the link with family and friends).  41 WMGT
  • MBCTA is launching its Teen Summer Bus Pass program for Bibb County teens to ride buses at low cost during June and July. Families and students are urged to review application instructions before summer schedules begin (service will adjust for Memorial Day Monday, May 25).  41 WMGT
  • Macon-Bibb County offices, courts and several public facilities will close Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day, and trash and yard waste pickup will be delayed by one day while emergency services remain available.  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bibb County Schools released their 2026 football schedules showing updated classifications and local rivalries; teams will start play week of Aug. 21 in Macon. Mercer announced its football slate and its women’s golf team finished fourth at a national invitational last week & now gear up for upcoming matches.  The Macon Melody
  • FPD Baseball beat Athens Christian by a score of 10 to 2 Friday, although lightning delayed the start of game two. The Vikings will resume the series Saturday in Macon as they aim for their third straight trip to the state championship series.  41 WMGT
