COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free youth basketball camp for ages 9 to 17 at the Rosa Jackson Recreation Center with the girls camp scheduled for June 2 to 6 and the boys camp for June 9 to 13. Registration is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Outreach Section Office at 774 Hazel St — spots are limited and on-site registration is not available.  41 WMGT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 7 year old boy died after going underwater at Lake Tobesofkee Friday afternoon as rescue crews recovered two other children who were taken to a hospital with an 8 year old in critical condition and a 10 year old in stable condition.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • Bibb County deputies are searching for a masked suspect after an armed robbery at Chevron at 4987 Bloomfield Road around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, when the suspect forced a clerk to hand over merchandise and then fled on foot toward Williamson Road (he wore a black hoodie, black pants, sneakers and carried a camouflage backpack) and no injuries were reported.  41 WMGT
  • A masked man robbed a Chevron on Bloomfield Road early Friday around 12:15 a.m. by pointing a gun at a clerk and demanding merchandise—no one was injured and the sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to call them.  WGXA

  • Central Georgia has released its 2025 Great Grads list to honor top local students—readers are invited to celebrate the achievements as the community looks forward to future milestones.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County Board of Education approved a tentative FY26 budget of $482.1 million that provides staff pay raises and creates positions to improve literacy and address truancy – the plan also boosts funding for teacher quality and student attendance. Two public hearings are set for June 10 at 5 p.m. and June 17 at 5 p.m. so the community can offer input before a final budget is adopted by June 30.  41 WMGT
