COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Douglass Theatre in Macon hosted the Operation Softback Book fundraiser that supported local children and aided efforts to ease food challenges in Elmina, Ghana; the event featured Chicken and Waffles—Getting to Know Elmina and marked the group’s official 501c3 status. Earnistine Wilson and Commissioner Stanley Stewart said the fundraiser strengthened ties between Macon and its sister city.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • A double homicide in Warner Robins killed Virginia Boston and her daughter Ra’Dashia Boston last weekend—her daughter's boyfriend is charged with murder—while domestic violence advocates urge victims to seek help as their 24-hour hotline received nearly 3,000 calls last year.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Old Dominion, Park McCollum, Vince Gill and Hank Williams Jr. will perform in Macon this summer, and event dates, venues and ticket prices (currently being finalized) will be announced soon.  13WMAZ
  • The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon is offering interactive summer learning for families with star shows and wildlife talks. The museum will host hands-on exhibits that help visitors explore art and science—providing an engaging way to learn.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Concerned citizens will rally outside Bibb County jail today from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to protest unsafe conditions following an incident in April where boiling water was thrown on an inmate—recent hospitalizations from a suspected overdose and delayed care have increased worries about inmate safety.  WGXA
  • Concerned citizens will protest today at Bibb County jail from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM to demand safer conditions after reports of inmate mistreatment—including boiling water being thrown and overdoses that led to hospitalizations—and the rally is led by the Human and Civil Rights Coalition of Georgia.  WGXA

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released a Restaurant Report Card covering food service inspections from May 19 to May 23 in Middle Georgia. The report shows that restaurants earned scores with red indicating unsatisfactory ratings, black indicating satisfactory, and green indicating perfect performance — offering a clear snapshot of food safety standards across the region.  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • CFCA Lady Lancers clinched their second straight championship by defeating Westminster Christian 2-1 in the GIAA 2A State Championship on Tuesday—sophomore Lois Tanner scored both goals and junior Emory Andrews made key saves.
