  • The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce will host the next Mingle with Singles event Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Rose Room downtown for $20; residents can join icebreaker BINGO and enjoy drinks in a relaxed setting that promotes in-person connections over dating apps.  The Macon Melody

BUSINESS NEWS

  • An Oregon-based coffee chain is set to open on Zebulon Road in North Macon this summer, a press release said. The new shop will serve coffee, smoothies, tea, and specialty drinks — it is the chain’s second location in Central Georgia.  13WMAZ
  • BrightFarms in Macon uses indoor hydroponics on an 8-acre greenhouse to grow lettuce year-round, supplying more than 5,600 stores and employing over 100+ workers.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Macon leaders honor Otis Redding’s legacy as his music and message of love inspire art education through the Otis Redding Center for the Arts (a center for young talent in Middle Georgia). The Redding family continues to share his story to keep his influence alive.  41 WMGT
  • The Old City Cemetery, founded in 1824 and bordered by Cherry, Sixth, Poplar, and Seventh streets, endures amid urban growth in Macon. Its two-acre plot (half the original) is maintained by Parks and Beautification and now includes a native garden by the Fringed Campion Society.  The Macon Melody

ECONOMY NEWS

  • This week, business leaders in Atlanta met to discuss how the rapid growth of data centers is shifting Georgia's economy — lowering utility bills and spurring new investments from large manufacturers and energy users. Georgia Power stressed that the market is open for business.  41 WMGT
  • Middle Georgia Regional Airport in South Macon is investing $50M in improvements (including a new executive terminal slated for completion early 2027 and an ongoing runway expansion) and will launch Contour Airlines flights to Fort Lauderdale on June 9 with tickets as low as $99.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia Power customers will see relief after state regulators approved lower fuel and storm recovery charges, saving typical users about $50 per year. The rate adjustment is set to benefit local residents on their next bill.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Central Georgia mother Patrice Trammell has launched a nonprofit to honor her late son J'Kaylen by promoting youth mental health in the community. The program will provide resources and support to help families cope and encourage wellness.  13WMAZ
