  • Bibb County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers from UGA offered gardening tips for Macon residents by suggesting alternatives to boxwood and explaining that fasciation—a harmless condition from minor injury or genetic factors—usually does not need treatment.  The Macon Melody

CRIME NEWS

  • A Macon woman named Sidney Bryant robbed Robins Federal Credit Union on Wednesday at around 9 a.m.—she entered with a child in a Spider-Man outfit, used a note to demand money, and was arrested at her home on West Highland Drive while the child remains safe.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has identified suspect Muchman Bond III as the accused shooter at Daiquiri Midtown Bar & Grill in Macon, where he killed three and injured six on May 18—he was arrested in South Carolina on May 27 on related charges.  WPGA News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wesleyan College launched a $61 million campaign called She Will to fund scholarships, residence hall renovations, and gym upgrades—nearly $30 million has already been raised over the last three years and the college plans to reach its full goal in the next three to five years.  The Macon Melody

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Biologists with the state DNR are using electrofishing in central Georgia waters to safely stun fish and collect samples for conservation studies. The process gathers key data on fish growth and mortality+which guides stocking decisions and conservation efforts, while purchases of fishing tackle and boat fuel+help fund these initiatives.  13WMAZ

  • Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency holds its Emergency Preparedness Fair today at Wesleyan College to help locals learn safe practices — officials say the event will offer key information on planning for emergencies.  WPGA News
  • On Wednesday, Macon residents gathered outside Bibb County Jail to protest inhumane treatment and squalid conditions, calling for better care for over 1,000 inmates and improved services for those with mental health issues—Sheriff Davis joined the march to City Hall to listen and discuss next steps. Community leaders and protesters alike urged for systemic reforms and increased accountability in jail management.  The Macon Melody

HEALTH NEWS

  • U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced plans today to end the federal COVID-19 vaccine recommendation for pregnant women, prompting experts to warn of increased risks of severe illness and pregnancy complications. Dr. Jennifer Hoffman added that if insurance companies stop covering the vaccine, many pregnant women may face high out-of-pocket costs — so all expectant mothers should consult their healthcare providers.  13WMAZ
