BUSINESS NEWS

  • ArcelorMittal Building Solutions will build its new North American headquarters at Airport South near Middle Georgia Regional Airport, bringing over 140 jobs (with an initial investment of $57 million and a planned $50 million later). Construction will start in about six months and run through the latter half of 2027.  WGXA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In 2025, sports tourism brought $17.9 million to the Macon-Bibb economy, with a repurposed indoor pickleball facility contributing about $4 million. Rhythm and Rally hosted large tournaments drawing over 5,000 players and will hold 15 tournaments in 2026—boosting local community growth.  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia announced on Monday, June 1 that 9 girls earned the Gold Award along with 49 Silver Award winners, 156 Bronze Award winners, and 73 adult honors. The awards recognize Girl Scouts addressing community issues.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Macon-based Speir and Associates launched a paid apprenticeship program that lets workers earn wages while taking technical courses at night and working in the field, developed with labor departments and Central Georgia Technical College + the program covers tuition, tools, and fees to close the skilled trade gap.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nationwide product recalls affecting furniture, food, supplements, toys, and electronics include safety warnings for items like Walmart dressers and Giantex chairs; Macon consumers should review their homes for recalled products and follow retailer directions for returns and refunds.  41 WMGT
  • Nineteen rural hospitals, including six in central Georgia, can apply for federal funds through the Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program to support health care services. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. July 1 and could yield up to $158,000 each if 167 hospitals apply (the funds total $25 million).  13WMAZ
