ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple agencies are searching for a 52-year-old man who was ejected from his boat during a crash at Shady Field Landing on Lake Oconee Saturday afternoon—officials used shore sweeps and side-scan sonar—dive teams from Dodge and Treutlen Counties are also involved.  WGXA
  • Tristan Cornelius, a 7-year-old boy who drowned last Friday at the Michael Dewayne Jones Public Fishing Area at Lake Tobesofkee, was honored in a family balloon release—emergency crews rescued two other children who were taken to the hospital.  WGXA
  • On May 23, three boys went under the water at Lake Tobesofkee after watching ducks, with one boy pronounced dead at the scene and 8-year-old Kiheen Johnson Jeffrey dying later at The Medical Center—authorities said a lack of supervision contributed to the accident.  The Macon Melody

CRIME NEWS

  • A Macon pastor held a prayer calling for an end to violence after 19-year-old Braxton Cole, 21-year-old Roderick Felton, and 16-year-old Kymelo Early died three summers ago at a former convenience store on Houston Avenue—urging the community to work together to prevent more tragedies.  13WMAZ
  • Sgt. Greg Thomas of Macon Regional Crimestoppers appeared on 41Today to report that five suspects are wanted—one being Houston County man Trevon A. Armstrong for aggravated stalking, criminal damage and battery—and anyone with information should call 1-877-682-7463.  41 WMGT
  • A Macon pastor prayed Sunday to honor three young adults shot and killed at a former convenience store at 3350 Houston Avenue in 2022 — Pastor Prince Moon said the shootings were gang-related and he uses his church to help guide youth away from violence.  13WMAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Otis Redding Foundation honored Otis Redding by installing a new bronze statue on Cotton Avenue near the cultural center + water fountain designed by Bradley Cooley Jr. The foundation is running Otis Music Camp from June 2 to 21 for young musicians and will host Camp Dream from July 14 to 25 for younger children.  Middle Georgia Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia DNR warned that as warm weather draws more locals to lakes and ponds, alligators may come closer—officials stress that not feeding them keeps encounters safe.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb County will soon accept proposals from builders to upgrade or replace the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Mayor Lester Miller said the county will post a request on its website to gather input on options that include a new jail or expansion of the current facility — a move meant to better separate violent offenders from those with mental health needs.  The Macon Newsroom
