CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Prosecutors charged Ashley Moore with bank fraud as she is accused of using data from eight ghost employees to bill Perdue Farms for labor that was never performed, stealing $375,757 between December 2022 and March 2024. 13WMAZ
- ➤ One inmate died and several others were injured after multiple stabbings erupted inside the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on Wednesday — law enforcement, a firetruck, and ambulances arrived as investigators worked on an aggravated assault. WGXA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ With summer break in full swing, Bibb County School District is providing free breakfast and lunch for children 18 and under Monday through Thursday until June 26 at several schools and community sites—meals must be eaten on-site while parents can order breakfast for $5. 41 WMGT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Georgia will issue one-time state tax refunds this week for taxpayers who filed in both 2023 and 2024. Gov. Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Revenue said refunds are capped at $250 for single filers, $375 for head of household and $500 for married filers—approved under House Bill 112. 13WMAZ
- ➤ At Tuesday’s meeting, Macon-Bibb commissioners approved borrowing $50M in bonds for road resurfacing and selected MFA Program Management as the project manager for the new arena project planned for the Coliseum parking lot. The county also settled a long-running tax dispute with the Academy of Classical Education with a reduced payment and approved over $96K from camera revenue to enhance school safety—actions that show ongoing efforts to improve local infrastructure. - ➤ FPD's Keon Johnson, a rising senior shortstop, was named Georgia Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year after leading his team to a 32-3 record and a berth in the state championship game. - ➤ Mercer University will host Los Angeles FC for practice in Macon ahead of their Club World Cup run in Atlanta.
