CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man, identified as Daetez Hertzog, was arrested in Twiggs County when deputies found ghost guns and packaged marijuana during a property check at the Marathon gas station on Sgoda Road at 4:18 a.m. on May 26—he now faces multiple charges and is held in Twiggs County Jail. 41 WMGT
- ➤ At the Bibb County Jail, a fatal stabbing Wednesday afternoon left one inmate dead and four injured when multiple inmates overpowered malfunctioning locks in the older east wing—an issue that persisted despite nearly $6 million spent on repairs over five years—Sheriff David Davis said. 13WMAZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local organizations in Central Georgia are hosting a full slate of Juneteenth events to honor African American history and culture. In Macon, the 2nd Annual Jr. Debutante Presentation begins today at Douglass Theatre with doors opening at 5 p.m.—other events including festivals, film screenings, and parades will follow in nearby towns over the coming days. 13WMAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, June 6, 2025, 28 Macon firefighters were promoted at a ceremony held at the Macon Mall — three were elevated to Captain, six to Lieutenant, and 19 to Sergeant. The event celebrated their career progress in front of family, friends, and fellow firefighters. WGXA
- ➤ A Macon woman, Alma Bowman, faces deportation and has been held by ICE since March despite her claim to citizenship from her American Navy veteran father and nearly 50 years in the community. Her sons say she missed a scheduled check in on March 26 and are working with attorneys to seek her release — they argue her long ties to Macon prove she belongs here. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Crews worked to repair a sinkhole in downtown Macon after a terracotta stormwater pipe broke on the northwest side of First and Pine Streets, allowing rainwater to wash away the soil. A contractor is working to fix the sinkhole through the weekend while a flagman directs traffic as the southbound and turning lanes on Pine Street remain closed. WGXA

- ➤ Macon's new 34,000 square foot Crisis Stabilization Diagnostic Center will open mid-June to give both day and overnight care for people with intellectual disabilities—16 inpatient beds support stays of up to 90 days while Mercer University School of Medicine will offer extra outpatient services later in the summer. 41 WMGT
