- ➤ Three Stratford Academy students raised about $720 by hosting a dress down day—where participants paid $3 to join—and delivered groceries with taco ingredients, bread, milk, and ice cream to 15 families as part of the Mentors Project Summer Feeding Program, helping fill a gap in free meals during school break. - ➤ The death of a homeless man raised concerns over resource shortages for homeless residents in Macon as Sister Deborah Mallott from Daybreak—a day shelter near downtown—said more young people are seeking help. 13WMAZ

- ➤ A homeless man, identified as 59-year-old Kenneth Kelly, was fatally hit by a train behind Burger King on Riverside Drive on June 7 + next of kin were notified + Bibb County coroner Leon Jones confirmed the incident. 41 WMGT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bibb County Sheriff's Office is searching for a person of interest in the Midtown Daiquiri Bar shooting that left three dead in Macon—witnesses say the suspect wore a red jacket with a dark top and pants and anyone with information should call 478-751-7500. WGXA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new exhibit called 'Untold Stories' is now open at Macon’s historic Hay House and it shows how Black workers helped build and run the home from enslavement to the Civil Rights Movement. The exhibit displays photos + artifacts that include items related to figures like Adeline Hall and Primus Moore and is set in the home’s original kitchen. The Macon Melody
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia General Assembly formed a bipartisan study committee to investigate chronic absenteeism in schools, and State Sen. John F. Kennedy (R-Macon) will chair the group and travel the state this summer. Senate Bill 123 requires local School Climate Committees to create a plan to boost attendance when it goes into effect July 1 (Bibb County recorded higher rates) as over 21% of students were chronically absent in 2024. 41 WMGT
- ➤ On May 15, the Bibb County Board of Education approved a $998,277 state grant to renovate and operate a new health center at L.H. Williams Elementary. The clinic will open by early fall—offering vaccines, preventative care and telehealth services to support students, staff and the Pleasant Hill community. The Macon Melody
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At the June 3 meeting, Macon-Bibb County Commissioners approved a contract with Memphis-based MFA Program Management to plan a new sports and event arena and settled a $297,362 property tax dispute with a local charter school. The arena is part of the mayor’s $450 million plan funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, and county officials also approved contracts for park landscaping and airfield upgrades—scheduled to begin work before new funds are collected—boosting local infrastructure efforts.
