Macon-Bibb County officials broke ground yesterday on a supportive housing project at Davis Street in Payne City designed to help working families secure stable housing.
The project includes one new home and one renovated property and is expected to finish in about five months (funded through the Affordable Housing Fund).
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman will be celebrated in a film premiere this week in Macon, spotlighting his hometown legacy and influence on local music (venue details are pending).
stARTup Studios will host Hot Glass Supper on July 10th at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., where Chef David Bartlett and lead glassblower Bryan Beck will present a multi-course dinner with live glassblowing (each course features imported Taiwanese beers and a complimentary studio-made item) in an intimate setting.
Bibb County Schools saw chronic absenteeism drop from 53.2% to 22.7% this academic year, with rates predicted at 28.5% next year.
District officials are using truancy task forces and attendance teams to cut absenteeism in half by 2030.
Bibb County Sheriff's Office and Campus Police will host a free Summer Safe Camp for children ages 7–14 at three middle schools in Bibb County, with sessions starting June 15 at Weaver Middle School, continuing later at Appling and Rutland (free meals provided) while registration remains open.
Former state legislator Larry Walker Jr. died peacefully Tuesday night at his Houston County home.
He served the community since 1972 and his long career is remembered through the Larry Walker Arena, named in his honor in 2025.
The Georgia Department of Public Health released Middle Georgia restaurant inspection scores from June 1 to 5, showing unsatisfactory scores below 70 and perfect scores at 100 for many sites in Macon and neighboring counties (scores are broken down by county for clear food safety standards).
The SEC released Georgia's 2026 football TV schedule.
The schedule includes a night game at Alabama on Oct. 10 and an afternoon game at Auburn on Oct. 17; kickoff times for other matches will be confirmed six days ahead.
