COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Atrium Health Navicent is hosting a free food drive-thru at Atrium Health Amphitheater on June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon — attendees will enter from Bloomfield Road on a first-come basis to receive nearly 40 pounds of food from 120,000 pounds available.  41 WMGT
  • Downtown Macon will hold Bee's Knees Week starting tomorrow, June 13, with restaurants and bars serving their own versions of the gin-lemon-honey cocktail to support pollinator habitats. The event will run until June 22 and includes a cocktail passport program where participants can collect stamps to enter a drawing for a $50 gift card while Barr Hill Distillery plants pollinator habitat with every shared post.  Middle Georgia Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Flying Biscuit Cafe in Macon is nearly finished and will open by late June or early July after its planned May launch was pushed back — manager Jack Deluca of Big Game Brands said the firm date has not been set. The new location at 588 Mulberry Street is backed by state legislator Jason Esteves, who also owns a Flying Biscuit in Columbus.  13WMAZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Christopher Clyde Valentine Jr. of Macon is wanted for three counts of murder after a May 18 shooting at Mid-Town Daiquiri Bar & Grill—authorities ask anyone with information to contact law enforcement.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Court of Miracles hosts Bass in the Belltower, a weekly family-friendly DJ event held each Wednesday at The Society Garden that features live DJs, glowing headphones, and creative activities such as games and art sessions for all ages — local artists add rotating pop-up experiences to keep the event fresh. Participants bring laptops and art supplies to work on projects while enjoying an evening of personalized ambient music.  Middle Georgia Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb County crews began repaving Goodall Mill Road between Sardis Church and Houston Roads on Tuesday using SPLOST funds + the project is expected to finish Friday afternoon.  WGXA
  • Goodall Mill Road is being repaved as part of the county's Paving the Way program and is funded by SPLOST and LMIG — work is expected to finish by Friday afternoon weather permitting, and drivers should use caution with lane closures.  41 WMGT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercer University and River Edge Behavioral Health unveiled a new 34,000-square-foot center off Hazel Street to serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—this facility includes a crisis stabilization center for 90-day care and an outpatient clinic offering various health services. The $23.7 million center, partly funded by a state grant, will start inpatient admissions next week while outpatient services begin in August.  The Macon Melody

  • Coach Barbara Cummings of Blazin Youth Academy in Macon inspires young girls to excel in softball and academics—she launched the academy three years ago after moving from New Jersey to Middle Georgia at the Unionville Recreation Center. The program holds STEM camps and has mentored over 1,000 players—many of whom now achieve success in school and sports.  WGXA
