COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Macon will host a variety of events this month—Bee’s Knees Week runs from June 13 to 22 with local bars offering special cocktails and passport draws, and a Juneteenth parade on June 22 ends with a tailgate party and fireworks. Family-friendly Make Music Day events will take place on June 21 and 22 at several venues to celebrate the city’s vibrant music scene.  The Macon Newsroom
  • Atrium Health Navicent’s annual community food drive on Friday provided up to 40 pounds of groceries per family — saving about $35 for each — to more than 3,000 Middle Georgia families amid rising food costs. Organizers focused on delivering fresh produce and used local mall logistics to ensure fast and smooth distribution.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • Bibb County Sheriff's Office asked for help in finding 25-year-old Christopher Valentine Jr—wanted on three counts of murder in the May 18 shooting at Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill that left three dead and six injured—and a man seen in a red jacket not believed to be Valentine.  13WMAZ
  • Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested 11 people on May 23 after a multi-agency investigation—Operation Westside Wakeup—linked drug sales in the jail to trafficking K2 and cocaine in Macon, including allegations against inmate Akbar Harclerode Sr, his girlfriend Kierra Howard and his brother Hassan Harclerode Sr.  41 WMGT
  • The family of Oscar Nedd found closure after his remains were identified last year from a 50-year cold case in which he disappeared in 1975 and his body will be laid to rest in Fort Valley today—while the investigation into his death remains open.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon officials are reviewing a demolition order for the vacant M&M Food Mart on Montpelier Avenue—deemed a public safety risk after more than 900 emergency calls and numerous crime reports—and a judge’s approval would force the owners to tear the building down within 30 days.  13WMAZ
  • Grand jurors reported that the Bibb jail had broken windows, faulty cell doors, overcrowding and unsanitary conditions during the May 27 inspection—problems noted in past annual reports. After protests on May 30 and a fatal stabbing on June 4, officials announced plans to expand the facility and will release 150 nonviolent inmates into an ankle monitoring program using federal funds.  The Macon Melody

SPORTS NEWS

  • LAFC arrived in Macon at Middle Georgia Regional Airport at 9:00 p.m. Friday ahead of their first match in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The team will practice at Mercer University and play Chelsea at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Monday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m.—Macon-Bibb was also named a practice site for the 2026 World Cup.  13WMAZ
