ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A small child drowned at a Monroe County home over the weekend — the sheriff's office confirmed the incident.  13WMAZ
  • Deputies arrived on Saturday just after 4:45 p.m. at a Monroe County home on Gose Road where a 2-year-old was found undergoing CPR but the child was pronounced dead at a hospital and the sheriff called the case a tragic accident under investigation.  13WMAZ

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 15th, a 38-year-old inmate, Mario Marquiz Clark, collapsed in his cell at the Bibb County Jail and later died at Atrium Health Navicent—investigators planned an autopsy to look into his in-custody death.  41 WMGT
  • A man wanted for murder in Bibb County was arrested in Jones County on June 13 when deputies stopped a car with a runaway juvenile — he was turned over to Bibb County authorities while the juvenile safely returned to family.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A team of nine specialists at Robins Air Force Base inspects safety gear like parachutes and life rafts to help ensure airmen can return home safely—each month they check about 25 survival items and replace small parts to keep equipment working.  13WMAZ
  • The Georgia Supreme Court blocked four new election rules (rules proposed by the state board) because it ruled that the board overstepped its authority (a decision that will require local election offices to adjust their procedures).  13WMAZ
  • Former Macon mayor Robert Reichert has urged local leaders at City Hall today to support a passenger rail project that could connect Macon to Atlanta, Savannah and other major cities. GDOT’s study will continue through this year and financial planning will begin in 2026 + officials have yet to decide if Macon will be a stop.  13WMAZ

  • LAFC practiced at Mercer University on Sunday to get ready for the Club World Cup that began Monday in Atlanta. The team faced schedule changes from lightning but said Macon was warm and welcoming—its excellent field helped them prepare.  The Macon Melody
