Macon is celebrating Juneteenth with a series of events that include a concluding van tour led by Fadil Muhammad at H&H Soul Food, cultural panel discussions and concerts, and a parade.

The free events and performances are scheduled across the week at venues like the Tubman Museum and Douglass Theatre.

Macon locals fondly recall closed eateries like Len Berg’s (operating 1908-2005), Shrimp Boat, and Edwell’s Trick and Novelty Co. Saucy’s Kitchen opened May 28 at 440 Walnut St. and now adds a modern chapter to the city’s flavorful past.

Rosa Parks Square will host the 10th Make Music Day on Sunday, June 21 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature open-mic jam sessions with gospel, soul and reggae music.

Bumble bees serve as vital native pollinators that buzz to free pollen from tough flowers and work in cool, rainy weather to support Georgia gardens—Rosann Kent from UGA Cooperative Extension urges residents to create bee-friendly habitats and offers guidance at the Bibb County office at 715 Oglethorpe Street.
