  • Mike Seekins, owner of Famous Mike's of Macon, passed away Wednesday night, June 25, 2025, around 9 p.m.—the restaurant will remain closed for a few days as his family asks for privacy to plan next steps.  WGXA
  • Mike Seekins of Famous Mike's of Macon died Wednesday night—hundreds of local residents shared their favorite memories of him. The restaurant will be temporarily closed as the community comes to terms with his loss.  13WMAZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies responded just after 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night to a shooting on the 3300 block of Majestic Lane and found 21-year-old Couri Woodford Jr fatally wounded—authorities later arrested 43-year-old Pierce Williams as the investigation continues.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fort Hawkins historic blockhouse in east Macon shows damage from falling concrete—exposing rebar and raising safety concerns—and preservationists plan to consult experts soon to decide on repairs. The site, a 1930s reconstruction of an 1806 trading outpost, remains open for tours on Saturdays.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller announced that billions in projects will be advanced with private investments, a new hotel tax & SPLOST funds as part of the nearly $220 million Fiscal Year 2026 general fund, which supports upgrades to jails, housing, and public safety. He said the county will use creative financing and new initiatives to fuel economic growth while potentially rolling back property taxes as assessments increase.  The Macon Newsroom

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mercer's head football coach Mike Jacobs signed a contract extension in March that will keep him with the Bears through the 2029 season after an 11-3 record and a Southern Conference championship last year. He said that despite key players leaving—including a transfer at quarterback—the team will build a strong culture with practice starting July 28 and a home game on Aug. 30.  The Macon Melody
