- ➤ Susan Joseph plans to expand her innovative shelter model to Macon-Bibb to ease overcrowding at local animal shelters and address urgent animal welfare needs. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Bibb County’s animal shelter is overcrowded and facing euthanasia of dogs due to space limits, so Rhode Island-based Susan Joseph—founder of New England Humane Society—is proposing a new facility for cruelty cases and heartworm-positive dogs along with mobile units to bring care to the community. She will work with local officials and expand volunteer networks to prevent further losses and improve animal adoption rates. 13WMAZ
- ➤ The Middle Georgia Regional Library System is running a mobile library that brings books, crafts and educational activities to neighborhoods such as Sandy Springs Apartment Complex—operator Yufiel Franklin tailors his selection to the audience's age and now students in several counties can use their school lunch numbers to borrow books. 13WMAZ
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office reported that Jawarren Johnson, a 27-year-old who ran across Eisenhower Parkway, was struck by a Chevy truck moving east on the 1600 block—he died at a local hospital. 13WMAZ

- ➤ A Southern grocery store chain announced its Central Georgia store will close on August 16— the decision was made with heavy hearts. 13WMAZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A deputy spotted Stephen Smith driving a Ford Fusion on Sgoda Road just before 11 a.m. on June 26 and he fled at over 120 mph on I-16 — he crashed after turning onto local roads and breaching a fence, and a six-hour manhunt led a Bibb County investigator to arrest him in a wooded area with him now held at Bibb County Jail on charges including probation violations and illegal firearm possession. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park + a free shuttle will carry visitors from Macon Bibb County Health Plaza at 171 Emery Highway while Native American performers, interpreters, dancers and crafters share stories, music and crafts. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Data from 2024 and 2025 shows that Bibb County emergency response times improved by only 14% instead of the 30% faster response Sheriff Davis claimed as call counts rose. Local officials are reviewing the numbers to determine the next steps. 13WMAZ
