- ➤ At Blanche Farms Meats in Bolingbroke, owner Bernie Blanche held a contest that officially named the first baby burro Jefferson on Saturday after he was born on July 4th. More than 1,500 people entered the contest, which offered two steaks as a prize — and Jefferson can now be seen next to the shop. 13WMAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ UGA Extension advises gardeners to water plants deeply for strong roots while monitoring soil moisture to avoid overwatering. Homeowners should run irrigation systems during the night (9 p.m. to 9 a.m.) and check for leaks to save water. The Macon Melody
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting July 18, the Georgia Department of Transportation said southbound I-75 drivers must use the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit because the Spring Street exit will be closed for six months during the I-16/I-75 upgrade — northbound drivers can still use Hardeman Avenue to reach I-16 East and must now merge left instead of right. The $500 million project aims to ease long-standing traffic problems in the area. 13WMAZ
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Transportation will close the Spring Street exit for vehicles coming from Interstate 75 north for months as part of the Interstate 16 and Interstate 75 interchange upgrade — drivers in Macon should plan alternate routes — to ease future traffic flow. 13WMAZ
