ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two swimmers were found dead as county officials continue searching for a missing 10-year-old child from a group of three who swam Tuesday in the Ocmulgee River near Amerson River Park — details remain under investigation. 13WMAZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Brian McManus, a 57-year-old British man, was convicted of murdering his wife in Warner Robins after he struck her with a rubber mallet and strangled her to cover up his actions, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole. WGXA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Macon-Bibb County commissioners supported high-speed rail talks that may connect Macon with Atlanta and Savannah — the county will soon name a representative to join future discussions with GDOT and local officials. This decision follows a resolution approved at a recent commission meeting. WGXA
- ➤ At a July 15 meeting, Macon-Bibb County commissioners approved the purchase of 10.1 riverfront acres near Amerson River Park for $2.1 million + $1.8 million from SPLOST funds to extend the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. The county will use school speed zone ticket revenue to fund a truancy officer for three years + allocate additional funds for parking and safety projects. The Macon Newsroom
