COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Middle Georgia Regional Library will close its Riverside branch on July 27th after serving the community since 1999, and a new branch will open at 5494 Forsyth Road (opening date not yet set) with transit officials still reviewing bus stop plans (details pending).  41 WMGT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi truck overturned this afternoon on Sardis Church Road in South Bibb — losing its freight and blocking the westbound lanes from Houston Road east — while deputies work to clear the roadway; the driver sustained only minor injuries.  13WMAZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flying Biscuit Café opens Monday, July 28 at 588 Mulberry Street in downtown Macon and will serve breakfast all day plus brunch, lunch, and dinner starting at 7 a.m. daily; grand opening specials (including a free $10 gift card for the first 50 guests each day and weekday discounts for students, teachers, and first responders) will run through August 11.  Middle Georgia Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Sgt. Greg Thomas of Macon Regional Crimestoppers appeared on 41Today to spotlight five individuals wanted by law enforcement in Middle Georgia — including Gerald Casey, who is wanted by Peach County for failing to register as a sex offender, with anonymous tips eligible for a cash reward.  41 WMGT
  • Authorities arrested 21 people after a multi-agency investigation executed nine search warrants on July 17 in Houston County and the Atlanta metro area—recovering over $5 million in illegal narcotics including marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy and THC edibles—with all suspects held at the Houston County Detention Center on racketeering charges.  WGXA

  • Donald Williams, a Howard High graduate now at Georgia Tech, received the Empowering Greatness Scholarship from Farah & Farah and a new laptop (to support his computer science studies).
