The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank will resume its Backpack Program when school starts, providing students with healthy food every Friday to cover weekend meals — a plan that joins forces with local nonprofits and schools like Bibb County to fight food insecurity.

A storm in late May knocked down a Verizon cell tower off Charter Boulevard near Piedmont Macon North hospital, leaving residents and workers along Vineville Avenue and Forsyth Road with spotty service.

Verizon is using a portable tower in the hospital parking lot while working with the site owner to soon install a taller one.
