  • Fergie is a 1-year-old pit bull and basset hound mix rescued by the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and cared for in the Bondable Pups program where inmates walk, feed, and train the dogs until they are adopted. The dog, who was abandoned and underfed for two and a half weeks, goes to her new adoptive family this weekend — a testament to the program’s work in giving pups a second chance.  The Macon Melody

  • After Janiecea Smith died in a head-on collision weeks ago in Macon, her family started a GoFundMe page to help cover living expenses for her four daughters (all under 9) and her funeral will be held August 2nd.  41 WMGT
  • Three people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision on Pio Nono Ave near Spencer Circle early Sunday morning — the Honda occupants suffered serious injuries and are in critical but stable condition while the other driver is stable.  WGXA

  • Flying Biscuit Café opened its doors Monday in downtown Macon and serves Southern-style dishes like chicken and waffles, biscuits with apple butter, and creamy white cheddar grits. Owner Sen. Jason Esteves and his wife Ariel are offering grand opening deals—$10 gift cards for the first 50 customers each day for two weeks and a $7 breakfast special.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to locate Carl Isiah Ford, 79, who was last seen at 7:00 p.m. Friday leaving a store on the 4100 block of Napier Avenue—he is 5'11 with a slender build, gray hair, and was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes; his family said he suffers from dementia and missed his medication.  WGXA
  • A SWAT standoff ended peacefully in Forsyth when deputies arrested 31-year-old Devin Adams at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday after he barricaded himself in a home near Highway 42—tear gas and negotiators helped secure his surrender without injury as he now faces charges for fleeing, probation violation, protective order violation and obstruction.  WGXA
  • Albert Booze pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery for killing Deputy Christopher Knight at Bibb County LEC in 2021—he was sentenced on Monday to 25 years with 13 years in prison and 12 on probation—and Macon DA Anita Howard said poor detention practices at the jail contributed to the fatal outcome.  WGXA
