  • On July 31, Dairy Queen in Gray donated every cent from Blizzard sales to support local children's hospitals, raising $180,000. The drive-thru served about 2,600 cars and owner Justin Kelly was recognized as the 2025 Local Corporate Person of the Year for his work with the event.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • Three men were shot at the Chevron gas station on Rocky Creek Road in Macon just past midnight on Friday—police said a 20-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 22-year-old man were treated at a hospital, with the 22-year-old's injuries not life-threatening as the investigation continues.  WGXA
  • Two teenagers died when a Dodge pickup truck struck a tree on Zebulon Road near Coleparchee Road early Friday at 2:18 a.m.+ Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators are seeking additional information about the crash.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Houston County Board of Education proposed a nearly 12% property tax hike—rising property values mean local property owners will soon pay more.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joe Finkelstein, a longtime technology educator and columnist, said he overcame severe anxiety and depression after his wife urged him to try electroconvulsive therapy— a safe treatment that helped when other options failed— and he now writes on artificial intelligence while working part-time at a local bakery.  The Macon Melody
  • Local Dairy Queen stores held Miracle Treat Day on Thursday and raised $80,000 for children’s hospitals in memory of a Jones County girl who died last month—each Blizzard Treat sold helped pay for pediatric care. The funds will support local hospitals with care and equipment for sick kids.  41 WMGT
